I think JA2 struck a good balance of characters sounding cool yet campy. It would be neat to see the same voice actors returning (though, it being 22 years old that's not very realistic), but I really hope the new voice actors have similar delivery as the JA2 actors. I think everyone can agree the characters (the writing and the voice acting) is such a huge part of JA2's charm. Character personality needs to stay intact. I think this is also a huge reason why Diablo 2 Resurrected manages to replicate the graphical style of Diablo 2 so well because it uses orthographic projection. They didn't have a choice (they couldn't go with a real 3D perspective since all the assets were 2D), but I think the orthographic projection ended up being a big part of the style. This is the perspective you got with the graphics in JA2. I feel newer games in the genre have overly simplified gameplay making the player have fewer options on how to engage the enemies. "Action points" rather than "move once per turn and shoot once per turn." Based on the trailer, it looks like this in, so that's good. However, in the oldschool X-Com games, and JA2, "missed" shots can end up affecting objects or other characters in the environment, which can make for more emergent gameplay, and also, various parts of the environment end up acting as cover naturally (rather than one object next to a unit having a binary "good/bad" flag defining the entire extent of the unit's cover). The environment in the new X-Com games might as well not exist because the hit chance is based on a few basic calculations the games don't simulate how the bullets travel. I feel this is what most modern turn-based tactical games are missing. Here are features I hope to see (or wished JA3 had gone for): I'm pretty excited about JA3 (and I hope it's much better than the previous JA releases as I found them all to be rather lackluster).
